Sources from the Cuban Athletics Federation told
ACN that it is an honor for the Osaka 2007 and Berlin 2009 world
champion to attend this meeting as only the top athletes of the
year were invited.
Savigne jumped 14.95 meters in the German capital earlier this
year to become the only Cuban gold medalist of the Berlin 2009
IAAF World Championships.
Accompanied by her trainer, Milan Matos, the Spain 2008 Indoor
world champion will travel on November 17 to Monte Carlo, where
IAAF will announce the Best Male and Female athletes of the
year.
Other female athletes invited include Russian pole vault
specialist Yelena Isinbayeva, American Sanya Richards (400
meters), New Zealand’s Valerie Vili (Shot Put), Croatian Blanka
Vlasic (High Jump) and Polish Anita Wlodarczyk (Hammer Throw).
Meanwhile, among men, Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt is the
favorite to receive the award.
Sources of the Cuban Federation
announced that during an extraordinary meeting of the IAAF
Council scheduled for Monaco later this month, Cuba will be
represented by twice-Olympic champion and IAAF member Alberto
Juantorena.
